Championing the right for girls and women with Albinism at COP30 Brazil

Centering Disability Rights at #COP30

This week, AAN is in Belém, Brazil, at COP30 with the Disability Climate Action Caucus, highlighting the urgent need to centre disability rights in global climate change negotiations.

Disability Rights Fund in collaboration with partners is hosting sessions where persons with disabilities and allies will share their lived experiences and innovative solutions for climate adaptation in the Global South.

Among the speakers is Gwen Mushonga, Executive Director of Alive Albinism Initiative, representing AAN, who will share her lived experience as a woman with albinism in Africa, offering a unique perspective on the impact of climate change.

She will also be exhibiting her artwork. Gwen uses unwanted fabric, transforming it into a celebration of life. Through her art, she draws a connection between how persons with albinism and disabilities are treated by society and how, like discarded scraps, they can flourish when nurtured, supported, and valued.

Join us to hear her powerful story and to view and discuss her art.
